When emotions collide

I had a memory sneak up without notice,

a recollection from the past and the reality of the current collide.

A gut wrenching feeling mixed with a loving moment,

In this conflicted ambivalence I must abide.

The rules of emotions are not concrete,

I can evoke feelings by recalling a moment in time,

Yet cannot box emotions in a container,

Sentiments don’t fit a distinct paradigm.

Life is a blessing sprinkled with relationships.

Family, friends, pets, homes, and careers come and go.

Success isn’t measured in bank accounts or house size,

Giving love and being loved is the seed that makes a heart grow.

I found pictures and trinkets that made me stop and think,

I remembered loved ones I’ve been blessed with over the years.

A life well lived is measured in the heart,

And is evidenced by laughter, joy, and tears.
