A few antidotes to boredom.

An antidote to boredom

Is it raining out your window, too hot to step on the sidewalk, or too cold to venture outside?  What can one do on days you are stuck indoors?  Well, you could straighten your sock drawers and put all of your mismatched socks together.  You could clean out your closet, your junk drawer, that plastic container cabinet, or your files on your computer.  Sound fun?  No, not to me either, but I will admit that there are times I geek out and enjoy doing those things.

Let’s explore other ways to beat boredom together. Some of these will not be appealing to you, and quite frankly, some aren’t to me either, but we’re all different.  Feel free to add some ways you beat boredom, below.

  1. Find a puzzle to put together.
  2. Find an old movie, or one of those guilty pleasure movies.
  3. Make cookies…. even better if you box up half of them to give away.
    1. No bake cookies are a fun alternative to turning the oven on if it is a hot day.  There are a ton of recipes on-line from other bloggers, so I will let you discover them.
  4. Dig out a coloring book and crayons and revert back to childhood.
  5. If you have art supplies such as acrylic paint, alcohol inks, and canvas boards, you can paint.  You don’t have to be an artist to do so either.  I like the abstract look of colors on a canvas. The two pictures, above, are from my sister and me.
  6. Give yourself a facial.
  7. Give yourself a mani/pedi.
  8. Listen to a podcast or read a new book.
  9. Write a story.
  10. Start a new bible study –there are lots of apps for bibles, but I use You Version.
  11. Go through that box of old photos and organize them.
    1. Alternately, go through all of the photos on your phone and organize.
    1. After you organize, upload them to your computer or electronic picture frame.
  12. Go to a movie at the theater; bonus points for being brave enough to go alone.
  13. Go get ice cream or hot chocolate, depending on the weather.
  14. If it is raining; take a walk in the rain. Just make sure it isn’t lightening outside.
  15. Call someone you have been meaning to catch up with.
  16. Write a letter or a card to someone.  I’m not talking about an email, I am referring to a good old fashioned, handwritten letter or card.  You will make someone’s day when they receive it.
  17. Paint a room; yes, this will take some real commitment to time, but it will freshen up your living space.
  18. Rearrange the furniture.  Doing so will force you to clean behind the couch or bed, dust the furniture, and shake out the rugs. You will fall in love with that room again.
  19. If it is a cold day, take a bubble bath with some music in the background, and maybe a glass of wine.
  20. Sing.  Do it, turn on your favorite song list, get your groove on and dance and sing.  You will feel better and get some exercise while doing it.
