Keep me in the moment

The song Keep Me in the Moment, by Jeremy Camp is a good reminder to us all. In his song, he sings ““…oh Lord, keep me in the moment, help me live with my eyes wide open, cause I don’t wanna miss what You have for me.”  In today’s world, it is so easy to live distracted. When was the last time you had a face-to-face conversation with someone, making eye contact without any distractions such as a phone, TV, or radio? It’s easy to let your mind wander during conversations or meetings. In Zoom meetings without cameras, it’s likely that at least one person is looking at their phone and multitasking while “listening.”

You can easily observe this in marriages and families. In any restaurant, you will likely see someone at almost every table on their phone. I am not lecturing, as I have done it myself; I glance at my phone far too often when I should be focusing on something else. Why are we so concerned about missing out or being available that we disregard what is right in front of us?  Numerous opportunities to appreciate nature go unnoticed due to the distraction of our phones. Additionally, many meaningful conversations do not occur because individuals are engaged in multitasking.

The song goes on to say “Singing, oh Lord, show me what matters, throw away what I’m chasing after ’cause I don’t wanna miss what You have for me.”  That is my desire: to be ready to hear what God has to say to me, see what he wants to show me, focus on what is in front of me, and live out what I know to be true. The truth is that I am a child of God, created in his image and meant for a purpose that he designed for me before I came to be.  I want to choose every day to live in the moment, be present, and trust the next step.
