From egg to caterpillar then pupa, some call a cocoon,

a butterfly emerges, fluid forced from body to wings

 as they struggle to become what they will be soon.

 Their shell kept them safe to strengthen and grow.

 So much struggle and work yet out comes a butterfly

 feeling its legs, testing its wings, getting ready to go.

They protect plants from insects, help clean air and pollinate. 

They taste with their feet and help to spread seeds,

their victorious fight is sure to captivate.

 They are a symbol of strength, beauty, and victory,

 without the struggle they would never soar,

They inspire awe; their miraculous life a mystery.

Like the butterfly, we have struggles that feel burdensome

 yet we can metamorphose, learn to grow, conquer battles,

spread our wings and watch what we become.

We can help others as they go through tests and trials

 as we mirror the life of the butterfly

 spreading love, compassion, and smiles.
