If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.  Those of you who remember jamming to the band Rush will know that this is from their son “Freewill”.  Deep, poetic lyrics to simply state that each of us chooses something, even if we don’t want to admit it.  One may say “I choose not to believe in God”. If that is the case, they are either choosing Self or Satan, but they are making a choice to worship some other form of god. 

Some other “choices” to consider.  Exercise: one may “choose” not to exercise, so they are choosing to allow their body to lose muscle mass, become sedentary, or become unhealthy.  Others may choose “free choice” rather than to “choose life”. I don’t want to get too deep into this, but when you choose to let a woman decide her own body, you are choosing to end a potential life. Enough said.

Other choices aren’t sinister or result in negative effects. Some choose not to eat meat. They are choosing this for a reason; they either don’t like the farming industry and how animals are treated, or they choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle because they believe it is a healthier alternative.  Some choose not to have televisions in their home (I am sure that brings heart-palpitations to some readers). The choice for no television is a choice to block out the world view of what entertainment is, or perhaps they don’t believe in hearing the news of the world. Whatever the reason, they have made a choice to decide what is brought into their home in the form of news or entertainment.

Trying to be lukewarm or ambivalent doesn’t negate the fact that there are times and situations where we all must make a choice about something. Choosing between a filling and a root canal is an easy choice.  Choosing whether to change jobs and move away from family or stay where you are in the comfort of everything you know; that is a doozy of a hard choice.  So, think of some choices you have had to make where you feel like it would be easy to just leave it alone and not decide anything at all.
