One of the things I love about this blog, is meeting new people and asking for their story. I met Robyn at a festival and could tell right away, that her energy was contagious and that she was someone I wanted to write about in my blog. I just asked if I could send her some questions. Robyn is a bold woman who did what she needed to do to; she was brave enough to make the necessary moves in her life, for her child and herself. Read more about Robyn:
Grief
What is an event that happened to you and rocked your world?
I was abandoned with a child and no money by my fiance.
How has that event changed the way you see the world?
The event changed me so much that I enlisted in the US Army and became a Soldier to make sure my son and myself had a place to live and food for the table. I no longer wanted to feel that helpless.
What are you doing to heal from that and what steps or advice can you give others?
I went to college while in the Military to get my education so that once I left the military, I could be gainfully employed and did not have to depend on anyone other than myself.
Afterwards; you had a change of career, can you tell us more about this?
What career do you have now and what did you move away from?
I am a recruiter for a Lineman School; I used to work for the military doing counseling.
What made you decide to take the bold step of changing careers?
I was sick of the cases and how people treated one another. The abuse, emotional, physical and neglect. It was too much.
How long did it take you before you decided to make the move?
3 months
How did the transition go? Do you have any tips or advice for other women that want to make a career change?
It was really hard. I got into a career field (Investment Broker) and had no idea what to do. I went to their school for it and having a great group of people going through the class really helped. My advice is to really sit and think about what you want to do. Look at the Pros and Cons. I ended up leaving after one year and have been doing Recruiting for Southeast Lineman Training Center and love it.
